Search continues for 6-year-old Harvey girl

Harvey, La. - A search continued Sunday for a girl who was reported missing from a Harvey home.

The girl's mother said she went to bed Friday at about 11:00 p.m. at her apartment in the 2900 block of Destrehan Avenue, and when she awoke at 9:00 a.m., the girl, identified as Ahlitta North, was gone. Jefferson Parish Sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato said the front door of the apartment was open and there was no sign of forced entry. He said several of the child's personal items were also missing.

Family members fear she's been picked up by a stranger.

"Anyone who has her, if you're not a God-fearing person, Christ-like person, don't hurt her cause she's only a child," says Bernard Barnett, Ahlitta's uncle.

Ahlitta was last seen wearing a gray tank top with pink pajama pants. She has braided, shoulder-length hair.

"She's loud, she likes to talk, she's very playful she's very friendly," says Janice Barnett, Ahlitta's aunt. "She's a good girl. I just ask that they don't hurt her. Just bring her back."

Investigators are in the process of interviewing the mother and neighbors and going door-to-door in the apartment complex. Anyone with information on the girl's whereabouts is asked to call the JPSO Missing Persons Bureau at (504) 364-5300 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.

FOX 8 will update this story as more details become available.
