3 arrested after truck narrowly misses Covington officer

FOX 8 received the following news release Sunday morning from the Covington Police Department:

At approximately 2:40 AM on July 14, 2013, a Covington Police Officer was traveling South on Collins Blvd. As he was about to begin crossing the Collins Boulevard Overpass, he observed a 1999 white, Chevrolet S-10 Pickup Truck traveling Northbound in the Southbound lane of travel.

He was able to react fast enough to swerve his patrol car against the barrier leading to the overpass and the truck flew past him. His patrol car received minor damage at this time. The Officer turned around and pursued the vehicle finally getting it to stop at Collins Blvd., and 32nd Ave.

It is the policy of the Covington Police Department not to work our own wrecks, so the Louisiana State Police were called to investigate the accident. Covington Officers held the 3 suspects until State Police arrived.

Upon checking the 3 occupants of the pickup it was found that they were highly intoxicated. Witnesses stated that when the pickup left the restaurant located at the Southside of the overpass, they turned into the Southbound Lane going in a Northerly direction. Neither the driver of the pickup nor the 2 passengers had a Louisiana Drivers License. The only identification that they produced was identification cards from Honduras. The vehicle was registered in Louisiana and had insurance coverage.

Louisiana State Police arrested all 3 subjects at the scene. Please contact the State Police for actual charges for the 3 men, and booking photos.
