Houma woman struck by lightning while inside supermarket


Houma, La. - A Houma woman is recovering after she was struck by lightning while inside a Rouses grocery store.

A spokesman with the Houma Police Department says it happened Monday afternoon at the Rouses located at 561 Grand Caillou Road.

The fire district chief says the woman was struck while she was in line to checkout.

She was rushed to the hospital and is expected be ok.

Officers believe the lightning struck the roof of the building, traveled through the sprinkler system, and struck a metal plate on the floor, striking the victim inside.
