Convention center tries new plan for riverfront

New Orleans, La. - The New Orleans convention center is re-grouping when it comes to its proposal to revamp the riverfront.

Gov. Bobby Jindal vetoed a plan that would have allowed the center to use bonds to finance infrastructure needed to develop a light rail system, a major new hotel and a new park on the upriver side of the convention center.

Now the board's finance committee has approved a measure that would authorize a design team to develop a new plan and investigate new sources of financing for the project.

The firm Manning-Eskew has been chosen.

The proposal now goes to the full convention center board for approval, perhaps by the end of the month.
