16 people injured in Westbank bus, truck crash

New Orleans, La. - A collision between an RTA bus and a utility truck injured several people and closed an intersection on the Westbank Wednesday, according to police.

The crash happened at about 4 p.m. at Behrman Highway and Behrman Place. Police spokesman Garry Flot said 16 people were injured, with 11 taken to the hospital. None of the injuries was thought to be life-threatening; three were reported as moderate.

The initial collision caused the bus to hit a cab, and the cab then hit two other cars. The roadway was closed because of an unknown amount of diesel fuel that spilled from the truck and the bus.

Lloyd Williams heard the crash and couldn't believe no one was seriously hurt.

"Thought it was a movie," he says.  'Thought they were shooting a movie at first but it turned out, I'm glad everybody turned out pretty good but they had a lot of people on the bus. The ambulance came on time to bring everybody to the hospital."

The truck had a Hydro Spy logo on the side. According to the company's website, Hydro Spy is a Texas-based hydro excavation contractor that serves the oil, gas, chemical and construction industries. Flot said the truck contained only dirt and water at the time of the collision.

No citations have been issued, and the accident remains under investigation.
