The Pelicans Briefs

Updated:
New Orleans, La. -

The Pelicans are  2-2 after closing out NBA Summer League play in Las Vegas with a loss to Denver in the playoff portion. The Pelicans fought back, but fell short, 87-82 despite 23 points from Darius Miller.  The inaugural tournament is a one and done affair.

2nd year guard Austin Rivers seems to be getting his mojo back after an injury plagued rookie year.

Pelicans.com points out that while Rivers did play in 61 games last season with considerable minutes... Over 14-hundred...he didn't dunk the ball one, single time.

The good news is, he's looking good so far this summer. The left hand is better. It had to improve after he broke the right one last year, and was forced to rehab southpaw.

As for the new competition coming in at guard, Tyreke Evans and Jrue Holiday, along with incumbent Eric Gordon, Rivers welcomes the competition.

Rivers told NBA TV this week "I know I'll find minutes, and I expect to be here next year. I just have to go in there and work and earn it."

So far, so good as the team leaves Summer League competition with it's younger players getting some seasoning, and everybody leaving Las Vegas healthy.

In a related note concerning the team, the team's yet unnamed dance team will hold tryouts beginning Saturday August 3rd. Registration starts at 9 at the Hilton Riverside Health Club on Poydras in New Orleans.
