Raceland man faces attempted murder after fight with woman

Raceland, La. - A Raceland man was booked with attempted second-degree murder after a physical fight with a woman almost resulted in her death, according to Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre.

Gerovonta Bourda, 27, was arrested Friday. The fight occurred July 15.

Investigators were contacted Thursday by representatives of Ochsner St. Anne Hospital who said they were treating a 45-year-old woman for life-threatening injuries. Detectives learned that the victim had been involved in a verbal altercation with a man that eventually turned physical. During the altercation, the woman was allegedly slammed to the ground several times and eventually lost consciousness. The incident was not reported to law enforcement at that time, and the woman did not seek medical treatment until Thursday.

She was eventually transported to Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, where she is listed in stable condition.

Through their investigation, detectives learned that the victim had been attacked by Bourda, also known as "Dut," and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.

Bourda was located Friday as he was driving up to his Raceland home. He is currently being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $200,000 bond.
