FOX 8 wins 17 first-place Press Club Awards

New Orleans, La. - FOX 8 won 17 first-place awards at Saturday night's New Orleans Press Club Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement honor for Chief Meteorologist Bob Breck.

The station took first place in the Newscast category.

Investigative reporter Lee Zurik won first place for his investigative series "Dirty Deeds," an examination of how vast expanses of oil- and gas-rich land owned by the state was handed over to some of Louisiana's most powerful politicians.

Anchor John Snell took first place in Documentary with his "Disappearing Defenses" -- an in-depth look at Louisiana's plan to stitch back some of its coastline.

Sports Director Fred Hickman took first place in the Sportscast category, with one judge praising his "well- rounded report on the day that the Saints bounty penalties were announced."

In Special Awards, Zurik won the Jim Metcalf Memorial Award honoring the best of first-place winners in broadcast writing, and Dave McNamara took home the President's Television Photography Award honoring the best of first-place winners in that category.
