Golden Meadow man dies in single-vehicle crash

Golden Meadow, La. - A 27-year-old man died Sunday in a single-car crash on Highway 308. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Investigators said Colby Charpentier, of Golden Meadow, was driving northbound on 308 when his Chevy Silverado ran off of the roadway and into a ditch. The Silverado then flipped several times before striking a utility pole.

Charpentier was ejected from the vehicle. Impairment is not suspected, but a toxicology sample has been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers want to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when a person is properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash, according to police.
