Jon Johnson released from federal prison

New Orleans, La. - A convicted former New Orleans councilman is no longer in prison.

According to the Bureau of Prisons, Jon Johnson was released Friday, July 19th.

He began serving his six-month prison sentence in January. He will now begin to serve six months of home detention.

In July of 2012, Johnson admitted to conspiring to steal federal funds.

He took FEMA money that was intended for a 9th ward non-profit organization, and used it to pay for his campaign for state senate.

He also admitted to submitting false invoices to the Small Business Administration to support an SBA loan that he received after Hurricane Katrina.
