Police: Man killed trying to run down officers

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Baton Rouge police say two officers are on paid administrative leave after one of them shot and killed a driver who was speeding toward them.

Cpl. L'Jean McKneely says 32-year-old Tyris Wilkerson of Baton Rouge was shot in the head early Sunday.

He says the officers will not be identified until Monday. They're on paid administrative leave - standard for any officer involved in a shooting.

McKneely says other officers had tried to stop a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer for a traffic violation, and police chased him through several neighborhoods.

He says the officers put on leave were among several trying to stop the Mountaineer at an intersection. McKneely says one fired several shots through the windshield.
