The Pelicans Briefs: Withey coming to N.O.

No surprise here: The New Orleans Pelicans have arrived at terms with rookie center Jeff Withey out of Kansas. Terms of the contract are undisclosed, as per team policy.

The 7-footer is a shot-blocking specialist. Withey is the all-time Big 12 blocks leader with 312, the conference defensive player of the year in his junior and senior seasons, and he averaged a block and a half in NBA Summer League play.

Next February could be a very big sports month for sports fans in our city. If all goes well, a lot of us will be in the New York area watching the Saints win the Super Bowl. Then, we can come back and gear up for the NBA All Star Weekend leading up to the game on February 16.

The Pelicans have named Anthony Davis, Austin Rivers, and Tyreke Evans for the All Star Jam Session.  It's great fan interactive event which will take place at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans February 13-16.
