Subject of post Katrina book cleared on charges he tried to kill ex-wife

New Orleans, La. - The subject of a best selling book after Hurricane Katrina is found not guilty of trying to hire someone to kill his ex-wife.

Prosecutors claimed Abdulrahman Zeitoun attacked his then wife with a tire iron.

While in jail on those charges, they claim he tried to hire another inmate to kill her for $20,000 thousand dollars.

Our partners at, The Times Picayune report Judge Frank Marullo issued a not guilty verdict today and blasted prosecutors for putting the former inmate on the stand.

Marullo said the former inmate had a track record of lying on the stand.

Zeitoun was portrayed as a hero protagonist in the best-selling 2009 book "Zeitoun" by Dave Eggers.
