Department delays enacting new uniform tattoo regulations for officers- WVUE Photo
New Orleans, La.- NOPD officers' tattoos won't have to go undercover just yet. The department will delay enacting a new policy that will require officers to conceal all visible tattoos until October 6.
The change was set to take effect August 1. The Fraternal Order of Police objected because of concerns about heat for officers who would have to wear extra clothing to obscure tattoos on their arms, necks or legs.
NOPD Spokesperson Remi Braden says the proposed revisions to the policy were sent by e-mail to the presidents of the various police organizations earlier this year and no one offered feedback at that time. Braden says the superintendent is willing to work with rank-and-file officers to develop a one-style arm cover for short-sleeve weather.
