Tarpon Rodeo officials deliver 2013 grand prize

FOX 8 received the following news release Thursday from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office:

Following another successful rodeo weekend, officials with the International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo delivered this year's grand prize award on Tuesday. The winner, Robert Daigle of Houma, was selected from a drawing of every participant in this year's rodeo. Delivery of the grand prize was made to Daigle at G & Sporting, Inc. in Raceland on Tuesday, July 30.

The grand prize is a 2170 Blazer Bay boat, powered by a Mercury Optimax 150 horsepower Pro XS model outboard motor. It's equipped with a MotorGuide 24 volt trolling motor and a Mercury Marine stainless steel propeller, and a Magic Tilt custom aluminum trailer was also included. The boat is constructed of 100% composite materials, meaning the vessel is "wood-free".

Officials with the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo thank Mercury Marine, Blazer Boats, and MotorGuide for their support through the grand prize of this year's rodeo. They would also like to thank all rodeo sponsors, and the entire list can be found on the website at www.tarponrodeo.org. The website also features photos from past rodeos, rules and regulations and more information.

This year marked the 91st Annual International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo. Cory Cheramie of Houma reeled in the only tarpon of the weekend on Friday at 102 pounds, 3-ounces. Kevin Hatcher of Donaldsonville set a new record in the Grouper category with a 115-pound, 6-ounce catch. That tops the previous record of 99 pounds set by Glenn Thomas in 2012. One of the highlights of the weekend was the 705-pound, 4-ounce blue marlin brought in by Ben Bernard of Lafayette which was the 4th largest in rodeo history.
