Elderly woman injured in hit and run in Metairie

Metairie, La.  - Deputies in Jefferson Parish are searching for the driver of a silver 4-door car, seen fleeing from a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian.  Sheriff Newell Normand says his officers responded to reports of a woman struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Transcontinental Drive and Rye Street in Metairie shortly after 2 PM Thursday afternoon.   The victim was transported to University Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Traffic fatality investigator Carl Quijano, Jr. conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident.  Quijano learned from witnesses that the elderly woman who was hit likely lives in the area where the accident occurred.  He says she was attempting to cross from the west side of Transcontinental to east side when she was struck by the silver colored car.   The car was last seen traveling west on Rye Street, then turning south onto Transcontinental Drive where witnesses reported seeing it strike the pedestrian and flee south on Transcontinental.

Anyone with information in this matter or who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call 911 or CRIMESTOPPERS.
