The Saints seventh practice of training camp, felt like the seventh practice of training camp. Basically, the newness of training camp has worn off and things have hit a very workmanlike point.
Of all the practices to date, this one had much more detail type work involved as opposed to all out crashing and dashing.
They moved things inside and put the pads back on and spent a lot of time on third down and red zone.
It certainly was quality work, but I think the camp grind is officially here.
Play of the Day
During team drills, the defense sent Kenny Vaccaro and Roman Harper came on a blitz. It was picked up well, then Brees climbed the pocket and hit Courtney Roby who had beat Keenan Lewis on a post route for a 70-plus yard touchdown.
-Roby had another outstanding catch in end zone during red zone drills.
- Nick Toon is starting to really pick things up. He made two great catches from Luke McCown in the corner of the end zone when he was able to reach over the defender and grab the pass. The catch displayed his great length, something that I had underrated until this point.
- Michael Higgins did his best Jimmy Graham impression. Also during red zone, Higgins ran the Graham-style seem route. McCown put it up behind him but Higgins was able to go and reach behind him and snatch the ball.
- Curtis Lofton was back at work Thursday. Mark Ingram was held out to rest. Coach Sean Payton said Ingram will be back Friday.
