Laplace, La. - The body of a St. John Parish teen who had been missing since March 24 was discovered Thursday buried in the woods near Garyville.
At an afternoon news conference, St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said the remains found buried were that of 17 year-old Mikivion Anderson. He had been shot to death.
Tregre said two people have been arrested in connection with Anderson's death.
Police arrested 18 year-old Nathis Burl and booked him with 2nd degree murder, conspiracy to 2nd degree murder, and obstruction of justice by tampering with evidence. Also arrested was 18 year-old Brandon Braxton. He was also booked with 2nd degree murder, conspiracy to 2nd degree murder, obstruction of justice by tampering with evidence.
"A community tip led us to him, we picked him up, brought him in for questioning," Tregre said. Through questioning he voluntarily led us back to Mt. Airy and led us to the area and said pretty much, the body is right here."
He said cadaver dogs were also alerted to the area and officers began taking turns with the shovel, digging to find the body. Mary Mannheim and LSU's forensic anthropology and computer enhancement team also assisted.
"Preserving the crime scene, preserving every piece of evidence, she sifted with her team through every piece of dirt that was removed from the ground," Tregre said.
