Independence mayor issues boil water advisory

Independence, La. -

People who get their water service from the town of Independence face a boil water advisory after a crew installing fiber optic cable drilled through to the town's main water line.

Mayor Mike Ragusa told FOX 8 the incident occurred Monday afternoon, and repairs will take until at least 10 or 11 Monday night.

People who get their water from the Independence water supply (approximately 1,700, according to the latest estimates) should boil their drinking water per state-outlined procedure until the problem is fixed.

Residents can call City Hall at 985-878-4145 with any questions.
