JPSO: Elderly woman tied up; robbed by fake postman

Metairie, La. - The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says an 82 year-old woman was tied up in her home Sunday after a suspect posing as a postman said he was there to deliver a package.

It happened August 3rd around 1:30pm in the 200 block of Mandarin Street.

The woman told police her doorbell rang and when she approached the door, she saw a man at the door dressed in what she recognized as a "mailman" type uniform.

The suspect told the victim he was delivering a package.

The woman opened the door and that's when the suspect forced his way into the home and directed the victim to the floor. The suspect then covered her face in an effort to obstruct her view. It was at this time that a second suspect entered the home. Both suspects began demanding to know where her jewelry and money was.

The victim also told police she could hear suspects rummaging through her home and her purse constantly demanding her jewelry.  She stated that the first suspect was respectful and called her "ma'am" and was mostly polite.

The victim believed she was tied up for approximately twenty minutes before the suspects fled her home.

She was able to free her arms and call the police.

It is unknown if any articles of property were removed from the home during the incident.

Suspect one is described as a black male, around 30-40 years of age, approximately 6'0" tall, with a medium-muscular build.

Suspect two is described as a black male also 30-40 years of age. No further information was provided for the him.
