JP council defers decision on hospital management

The Jefferson Parish council has put off a decision on which private company should takeover management of the parish's two publicly owned hospitals.

Tuesday, members of the boards for East and West Jefferson Hospitals met behind closed doors in hopes of settling on one of the three finalists for privatizing the hospitals.

But apparently no recommendation was made to the council on which company would be best to take over management of the hospitals. The Ochsner Health System, Louisiana Children's Medical Center and HCA are all vying for a long term contract to run East and West Jefferson Hospitals.

The council has final say on which company gets to operate the hospitals.
