Philadelphia, Pa. - Saints veteran linebacker Jonathan Vilma is undergoing knee surgery in Philadelphia Thursday, according to an ESPN report.

The tenth year pro has sat out several practices during the three weeks of training camp but coach Sean Payton never disclosed what, if anything, was ailing Vilma.  He missed Friday's preseason opener against the Chiefs but practiced Tuesday before missing Wednesday's practice.

The report goes on to say that Vilma will not play in the remainder of the preseason but is hopeful to be back for the Saints' September 8th regular season opener against the Falcons.

He began the 2012 season on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform list while his knee healed but played in the remaining eleven games.
