Houma, La. - Houma police arrested a man Friday after a traffic stop yielded drugs and a weapon.

Officers on routine patrol just before 1 p.m. spotted black Honda Accord traveling in the area of Morgan and Beaumont streets with extremely dark tinted windows. The windows were checked and determined to be over the legal limit.

As the investigation continued, the driver, identified as 27-year-old Christopher Barrio, appeared to be extremely nervous and told the officer he did not have a driver's license. Barrio also said there was a weapon in his car. Officers retrieved a Smith and Wesson .40 cal semi-automatic pistol and three Styrofoam cups containing a purple substance. Barrio told police that the substance in the cups was codeine cough syrup mixed with Sprite.

Barrio was arrested on one count each of having illegal tinted windows, driving without a license, drug possession and possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

He booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail. Bail information was not immediately available.
