Trial to begin for murder of 2-year-old Jeremy Galmon

New Orleans, La. - It was an act of violence that scarred an entire community. Jeremy Galmon, just 2 years old, was killed by a stray bullet in a hail of gunfire as a second line parade passed nearby.

At the time, little Jeremy was sitting in a parked car with his grandmother at the corner of 2nd and Dryades in Central City.

"He was a happy child and I just wish they'd stop the violence," says the toddler's grandmother, Joyce Galmon.

Just days after the September 2010 killing, U.S. Marshals and NOPD investigators acted on several tips given by the public and arrested two cousins. Bernel and Jamiron Pollard are each charged with second-degree murder in the death of Jeremy Galmon.

At Criminal District Court on Tuesday, prosecutors and defense attorneys spent nearly six hours selecting a jury.

Opening arguments will begin Wednesday morning. Judge Robin Pittman says she expects the trial to last about a week.

If convicted, the two men face life in prison.
