Mandeville, La. - The Mandeville Police Department is investigating a possible attempted kidnapping that happened Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesman with the Mandeville Police Department says around 3:45 p.m., an 11 year-old girl got off a school bus near the intersection of Cambronne Street and Barbara Place.

As she walked to her driveway, an older model car pulled alongside of her and stopped. The driver got out of the vehicle and asked the girl, "do you need a ride home?"

Police say the girl started running toward her home and as she reached the front door, she looked back and saw the driver running after her.

She was able to get inside the house before the subject could get close to her. The child told her father who ran outside, but the suspect had already fled in the vehicle.

The child described the suspect as an Hispanic male, heavy set, with dark colored hair cut short and with a mustache and glasses. The subject was wearing a light blue polo style shirt.

Witnesses in the area told police a subject matching that description had been seen before driving a late model sedan, possibly a Cadillac, that is rust covered with possibly a faded green paint job.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Mandeville Police Department at 985-626-9711.
