Tulane police: Student robbed on State Street

Police are looking for a suspect in an armed robbery case near the Uptown campus of Tulane University.

The school says a female student was robbed while walking northbound in the 2100 block of State Street around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

She was "approached by an unknown black male wearing a ski mask and walking southbound on State Street," reads an advisory from Tulane University Police.  "As he approached, the victim noticed that the subject had one hand under his shirt as though he may be concealing a weapon. The subject pushed the victim to the ground, taking her purse from her and fleeing southbound on State Street and then unknown.

Investigators describe the suspect as male, standing 5-feet-7 to 5-feet-9 with a heavy build and a dark complexion, wearing a white ski mask and blue jeans.

"TUPD is working with NOPD to increase patrols in the area," continues the school's advisory.
