St. Tammany Council asks embattled coroner to take pay cut

Mandeville, La. - Members of the Saint Tammany Parish Council used their newly appointed financial powers over Coroner Doctor Peter Galvan's office to ask him to take a pay cut.

Council members want to bring Galvan's salary more in line with coroners in neighboring parishes. Currently Galvan makes over $200,000 dollars.

Galvan has come under fire for questionable spending and salaries in his office. He's been the focus of a series of FOX 8 investigations.

The council also took up the salary Galvan wants to pay the person who will eventually fill the job of his new Executive Director. Galvan wants the job to pay more than $115,000. Wednesday night the council voted to set the salary at $80,000.
