AP story Triple shooting claims the life of 11-year-old girl

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - An 11-year-old girl died Monday following a shooting at a New Orleans home that also wounded another child and a man, police said.

The girl was shot in the head just after midnight before she died at an area hospital later in the morning, according to New Orleans Police Department spokesman Garry Flot.

Another 11-year-old girl and a 38-year-old man also were wounded in the shooting, but their injuries weren't considered life-threatening. Flot said a family was inside a home on General Ogden Street when shots were fired into the house around 12:15 a.m. A woman and another child in the home weren't injured. No suspects were immediately identified.

The 11-year-old was the second child gunned down in the city in the past week. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and his police chief appealed for the public's help in identifying a suspect in the death of a 13-month-old girl who was shot and killed Thursday while she was being held by an 18-year-old baby sitter. The teenager was wounded in the shooting.

Crimestoppers is offering a $5000 reward in both of these cases.
