FOX 8 received this news release from the New Orleans Police Dept. Thursday night:

One week after someone opened fire on an 18-year-old woman and the 1-year-old baby she was carrying, New Orleans Police have arrested the man they believe is the gunman, as well as the co-perpetrator in the crime.

Shortly before 6pm tonight, members of NOPD's Violent Offenders Warrants Squad (VOWS), Special Operations Division Tactical officers and U.S. Marshals tracked down 19-year-old Darnell Ramee in a residence in the 2900-block of Paris Avenue.

Homicide detectives believe Ramee shot to death little Londyn Samuels and wounded her teenaged babysitter last Thursday night in the 2800-block of South Saratoga Street. Yesterday, investigators arrested Ramee's alleged co-perpetrator, 24-year-old Keelen Armstrong.

Ramee tonight is being booked with First Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder.

Superintendent Ronal Serpas said, "This is phenomenal work done by our Homicide division. I can't praise these detectives enough. Detective Robert Barrere, who was the lead in this case, was tenacious, and I had no doubt that he and our team would wrap up this case. I'm hoping the people of this neighborhood can rest a bit easier tonight."

Darnell Ramee has been previously arrested for Illegal Carrying of Weapons and Possession of Stolen Property.

Keelen Armstrong has been previously arrested for Illegal Carrying of Weapons and Driving on a Suspended Driver's license. Armstrong had two outstanding municipal attachments from the Gretna Police Department.

And Keith Ward, the man detectives call a "person of interest" in the General Ogden Street murder case, went to NOPD's Second District station earlier tonight after seeing his photo on the local news. Detectives believe Ward was on the scene of the shooting early Monday morning, and might have information that can help in the investigation. In that shooting, 11-year-old Arabian Gayles was killed, and her 11-year-old cousin and a local man were wounded.
