New Orleans won't have to repay money to FEMA

New Orleans, La. - New Orleans doesn't have to pay back nearly 11 million dollars to FEMA.

A three judge arbitration panel ruled the city is no longer responsible for the money used to pay emergency workers in the weeks after Hurricane Katrina.

FEMA first granted the money to the city in 2006 for the salaries of police, fire and emergency medical personnel then reversed itself in 2009.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu applauded the decision and said it's a perfect time to remember what first responders did to help residents during the storm.
