Multi-car accident on West Bank Expressway in Marrero

Marrero, La. - Louisiana State Police say a driver is responsible for causing two separate accidents that sent several people to a hospital including and eight-year old boy who is listed in critical condition.

The first accident happened just before 9am on the elevated portion of the West Bank Expressway in Marrero.

Investigators say the driver of a pickup truck struck two cars, then took the Barataria exit.

Once on street level, the driver ran a red light slamming into another car.

Six cars were wrecked.

State police say the driver's medical condition could be a factor.
