SI report: OK state participated in pay-for-play program under Les Miles

A Sports Illustrated investigative report alleges Oklahoma State's football program participated in a pay-for-play program from 2001 to at least 2011.

Current LSU head coach Les Miles was the coach of the cowboys from 2001 to 2004.

This rules violation scandal allegedly began during Les Miles' first season as Oklahoma state's head coach in 2001 and was run by then-special teams and secondary coach Joe DeForest.

Miles is only mentioned twice in the article and the report does not allege that Miles had any knowledge of wrongdoings.

Miles left OSU for LSU after the 2004 season and the article alleges that DeForest, then an associate head coach under Mike Gundy, continued the pay-for-play program.

DeForest left OSU in 2011 and is now the associate head coach and special teams coordinator at West Virginia.

He told SI that in his 24 years, he has "never paid a player for on field performance."

Sports Illustrated interviewed eight former players who claim they received cash payments and those players named 29 other players as having received payments under the program.

The NCAA has a statue of limitations of four years.

LSU does not believe this report will affect the tigers' football program, nor coach Les Miles.

Miles denied the allegations Saturday after his tigers beat UAB.

"I don't know of any improprieties while I was the coach there. I can tell you this: that we have always done things right and I really enjoyed my time at Oklahoma State.I felt like I met a lot of wonderful people and we made our football team better. We worked hard. It has never been a place where you needed to cheat to have success," said Miles.

Again, this is not an LSU football issue. The alleged rules violations occurred at Oklahoma State, and Miles was last there nine years ago.

He denies any wrongdoing, and it's unlikely that Miles would receive any repercussions as LSU's coach.
