Independence High student arrested for drug possession and possession of a firearm

New Orleans, La. - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Deputies have arrested a 16-year-old Independence High School Student for drug and gun possession, while on campus. The student was arrested Tuesday after he was found smoking weed in one of the school's bathrooms. The student was charged with possession of CDS I, possession of a firearm while in possession of CDS I, possession of stolen property (firearm) and possession of firearm in a Drug Free Zone, according to police.

At the time of the arrest, the school went on lockdown so a complete search of the campus could be conducted. As a result of the search, three other minors were charged with narcotics related charges. The four minors were booked in the Tangipahoa Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
