Musicians raise money for Crimestoppers with message of peace

New Orleans, La. - Musicians, members of law enforcement and residents from around the area gathered at Generations Hall Wednesday night to support Crimestoppers.

The event was organized after local musicians approached Crimestoppers to ask how they could help spread a message of peace.

Dr. John and Bobby Rush performed a song written especially for the event, and Rockin' Dopsie, Allen Toussaint and David Batiste also took the stage. The hope is that music will transcend racial and economic barriers to encourage young people to stop killing each other.

More than 600 people attended the fundraiser, which the musicians hope to make an annual tradition.
