Kenner man indicted in child rape case

Gretna, La. - A Kenner man accused of kidnapping and raping a Metairie girl will face life in prison with no chance of parole if he's convicted of either charge in a new indictment.

A Jefferson Parish grand jury handed up a two-count indictment Thursday against Steven Carter.

Carter is accused of kidnapping a 7-year-old girl from her apartment complex in June. He allegedly sexually abused her before he let her go.

Police got two big clues to help catch the alleged kidnapper: a surveillance shot from the apartment complex and another one of the suspect's gold Ford Taurus, taken from a house.

Carter's indictment includes charges of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape.
