Mortuary Haunted House wants your blood

Updated:

New Orleans, La. - Canal Street's Mortuary Haunted House wants your blood.

It's asking people who visit this year's haunted house to take time out during the visit to donate blood to the Blood Center.

FOX 8 News received the following press release from the blood drive's organizer:

When Twilight comes, everyone is out for blood…especially The Blood Center.  The Blood Center will be conducting blood drives at The Mortuary Haunted House all open nights beginning Friday, September 13th through Halloween (except Sept. 29).   Donors who give blood at the Mortuary's blood drives will receive a FREE VIP PASS to New Orleans' scariest Halloween attraction. Donors will also receive the choice of a special Blood Center Halloween t-shirt or unlimited blood coverage, plus a free cholesterol test!

All drives are at 4800 Canal Blvd. and start at 5:30 p.m.  The Mortuary's Hi-Tech Haunted House promises an adrenaline-pumping fright fest and a fun time for all. In six years of partnering with The Mortuary, we have collected over 3500 pints of blood.

In order to maintain a healthy and stable community blood supply, The Blood Center must collect between 300 to 350 pints of blood everyday.  Although donations fluctuate during different times of the year, there is always someone who needs blood.   Donating blood is safe, simple and easy and just one pint can help to save up to three lives.

Donors must be in good health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years of age to donate blood.  Sixteen year olds can now donate; they must weigh at least 130 pounds and have signed TBC parental consent form.  Donors are encouraged to eat a healthful meal and drink plenty of fluids before and after donating.  Please remember to bring a picture I.D.
