LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A DeQuincy man has been declared brain dead after being severely injured during a disturbance at a bar in Lake Charles.

Lake Charles police identified the victim as 30-year-old Chad Babineaux.

Police said he was found, unresponsive, on the floor of the "On The Rocks" bar following a disturbance Saturday.

Babineaux was declared brain dead Sunday. A 19-year-old from the area, Auston Soileau was booked with second-degree battery in the case and was being held in the Calcasieu Correctional Center with bond set at $50,000.

The American Press reports that Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said Babineaux, an employee at the bar, may have been trying to stop an argument among several people when he was struck.
