Police investigating separate shootings in Algiers, 7th Ward

New Orleans, La. - Police are investigating two separate shootings that took place almost within the same hour in two different neighborhoods.

The first shooting happened at about 5:45 p.m. at the corner of N. Roman and St. Bernard Avenue, where a man was found with a gunshot wound to his thigh. The victim was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition. No further information was immediately available, and the investigation is ongoing, according to New Orleans Police Department spokesman Officer Frank Robertson III.

The second shooting happened at 6:50 p.m. in the 1300 block of Southlawn Boulevard in Algiers. Police said a 19-year-old man was playing football in the area when a vehicle drove by and someone inside began firing at the crowd. The victim sustained a graze wound to the head, and was alert and talking. He was taken to the hospital, where he is listed in good condition, Robertson said.
