St. Tammany Parish lifts Boil Water Advisory for Slidell system

UPDATE from the St. Tammany Parish Government:

The Boil Water Advisory issued for Ben Thomas Water System in Slidell has been lifted.

Tammany Utilities has received confirmation from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals that the water in the Ben Thomas Water System is safe. Therefore, the Boil Water Advisory is rescinded.

New Orleans, La. - The St. Tammany Parish Utilities Department has issued a Boil Water advisory for the Ben Thomas Water System in Slidell. The advisory was issued on Wednesday.

According to The St. Tammany Public Information Office, the advisory was issued after repair work to a fire hydrant caused crews to temporarily shut off the water, causing low water pressure. The low pressure prompted crews to issue the advisory.

Test samples have been taken and are being evaluated by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. Officials are waiting for word from parish officials to pull the advisory.

In the mean time, officials are asking those affected to boil water for a full minute in a clean container. The minute begins after the water has been brought to a rolling boil.
