Danziger defendant asked to be released from prison

New Orleans, La. - The first of five former NOPD officers convicted in the Danziger Bridge shootings has filed a request be let out of prison.

Arthur Kaufman is in federal prison in Petersburg, Virginia. He was convicted of civil rights violations and the cover up of the case.

The request comes after a federal judge granted a new trial for the five former officers.

The judge tossed out the convictions because of what he calls prosecutorial misconduct by federal attorneys.

Kenneth Bowen, Robert Faulcon, Robert Gisevius and Anthony Villavaso were also convicted in the shootings on the bridge after hurricane Katrina in 2005 that left two people dead and injured four others.
