Repeat offender indicted by feds currently serving 80-year sentence

NEW ORLEANS - There is an update in the case of a repeat offender who was recently named in a federal RICO indictment.

Deloyd Jones spent years in and out of the criminal justice system and is now serving an 80-year sentence for the 2010 attempted murder of two people.

The Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office initially refused the charges against Jones in that case, citing an uncooperative witness whom Jones and his associates allegedly tried to intimidate.

But the district attorney's office eventually pursued the charges, and in December of 2011 a jury convicted Jones.

Last week, Jones and other members of a group called "Ride ort Die" were indicted on federal racketeering, drug distribution and murder charges.
