Chalmette HS will see police presence Wednesday

CHALMETTE, La. - St. Bernard Parish sheriff's deputies will be on the campus of Chalmette High School Wednesday after a fight broke out among students Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Doris Voitier said those involved in the fight will remain home until an investigation is complete.

"We want your children to feel safe and feel a comfort level, so they are going to see a presence of deputies in the school," Voitier said.

Upset parents worried about their children's safety packed a Tuesday evening meeting of the St. Bernard Parish School Board.

"(It's) the school system's responsibility to make it safe for everybody involved - parents, students, teachers, whoever it is," said one parent.

Sheriff Jimmy Polhmann said no one has been arrested, no weapons were involved and the school was never placed on lockdown.
