Man arrested for fatal punch at Metairie sports bar

METAIRIE, La. - A Metairie man was jailed Wednesday after police said he threw a fatal punch at a sports bar.

Deputies arrived at JR's Sports Bar Wednesday at about 4:30 a.m. in the 7000 block of Veterans Boulevard. They found 40-year-old Andan Anwar on the floor of the bar. He was pronounced dead a short time later. 

Witnesses told deputies that Anwar and another man were arguing over the who could use the pool table when 37-year-old Aaron Ullrich walked over and punched Anwar, knocking him to the floor.  

The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office confirmed that Anwar died as a result of the blow to the head.

Ullrich was arrested Wednesday morning. Authorities said he admitted to the assault and has been booked with one count of manslaughter.
