Georgia tops LSU 44-41 as Mettenberger returns to Athens

Athens, Ga -- LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger's return to Athens was worth the hype. Mettenberger was released from Georgia his freshman year due to an arrest, and all the focus during the week leading up to the matchup was on him.

Mettenberger responded under pressure with a career high 376 passing yards on the day. The Georgia native also tossed three touchdown passes, but was sacked four times. One of those sacks came on LSU's final drive that ended with a Mettenberger incomplete pass on fourth down.

Georgia improved to 3-1 on the season with their 47-44 over the Tigers. LSU stands at 4-1 after the heartbreaking defeat.

LSU Head Coach Les Miles summed up Mettenberger's performance in one sentence, "He wasn't perfect, but he was damn good."

If Mettenberger was good, then Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray was great today. The senior threw for 298 yards, and four touchdowns.

His last touchdown strike to Justin Scott-Wesley was the winning score, putting the Bulldogs up for good 44-41.
