Man arrested in Plaquemines Parish for secretly recording future step-daughter

Updated:

New Orleans – A Belle Chasse man was arrested for secretly video-taping his future step daughter. The identity of the victim will not be released in order to protect her.

According to police, a mother contacted the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Department to report that she found several nude photos of her 15-year-old daughter on the family computer. The videos appeared to be made with a hidden camera and without the girl knowing. The mother knew that her fiance' was responsible because he was seen on video, setting up the camera. When confronted, the fiance' admitted to recording the girl, saying he "was sick back then" and left with his belongings.

Police found out that the girl was only 15-years-old at the time of the recordings, which detectives say happened between December 2012 and June 2013. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant and arrested the man without incident at 2:00 a.m. on September 26th  while sleeping in his car near a Belle Chasse business.

Detectives obtained the family computer, the man's cell phone, and two memory cards as evidence. The computer contained several nude photos of the girl. When questioned by detectives the man admitted that he was curious and sick. He was transported to the Belle Chasse lockup where he was booked with video voyeurism. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.

Because the victim is a minor, if convicted, the man can face anywhere from 2-10 years in prison without the possibility of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence and a fine of no more than $10,000. The man will also have to register as a sex offender, if convicted.
