Police say man begs to be shot after robbing Baton Rouge Subway

Updated:

BATON ROUGE, La. - A man was jailed Wednesday after Baton Rouge police say he requested food at gunpoint at a Subway restaurant - and then asked police to shoot him.

Investigators say 29-year-old Daniel Hobdy carried a revolver into the restaurant on Burbank near LSU's campus and got away with a 12-inch roast beef sandwich.

When officers caught up with him in the parking lot of the Southgate Towers apartment complex, witnesses say Hobdy begged police to kill him.

"I hear some screaming, and I run out to the balcony," said witness Michael Markowitz. "And this dude is holding the gun up in the air with 15 cops all pointing guns at him. They're screaming back and forth, and he's asking what he has to do to get them to shoot him."

Officers eventually tackled Hobdy and arrested him for armed robbery. No one was injured.
