Jimmy Graham makes history

New Orleans, La. -

New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham makes history today. He became the first tight end to ever win the NFL'S Offensive Player of the Month Award for either the NFC or the AFC.

The award has been around for 27 years, but it took Graham's ability to catch, dunk, jump and block to lock down this honor for a player other than a quarterback, receiver or running back.

This season, Graham leads all tight ends with 458 receiving yards, an average of 114.5 per game.

Drew Brees' favorite target also has eight catches of 20 or more yards, 27 receptions and 6 touchdowns.

Brees targets Graham more than 30 percent of the time for a reason.

"You'd say that your job as a quarterback is to try to put guys in the best positions to succeed by utilizing their strengths," Brees said. "A lot of times you take a player and it's like, 'OK, these are his strengths but then he's got these weaknesses that we're going to stay away from and we're just going to try to utilize the strengths.' You then encounter certain players like Jimmy Graham and you just say, 'OK, this guy has the ability to have all strengths and no weaknesses.'"
