Plaquemines Parish declares state of emergency for tropical storm Karen


BELLE CHASSE, La. - Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser declared a state of emergency for Plaquemines Parish as tropical storm Karen approaches the Gulf Coast.

Parish officials made the announcement as of 3 p.m. today. "We are fully prepared for a potential heavy rain event. All pump stations are operational and we have crews on stand-by," Nungesser said.

All Plaquemines Parish Schools will remain open through Friday, Oct. 4, but all Plaquemines Parish Recreation Department games have been canceled for this weekend.
