Slidell: 4 p.m. update

UPDATE: Slidell, La. - The Mayor and City Council announced that several sand bag locations will open at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Locations include the corner of Pontchartrain Drive and Lee Street; the tennis courts located at Cleveland Avenue off Sgt. Alfred Drive; the parking area at the corner of Rue Rochelle and Independence Drive; John Slidell Park; and the VFW on Kaycee Drive. There is a limit of 15 sandbags per household.

Customers who sometimes have issues during heavy rain events, especially in West Slidell, may experience backups depending on the amount of rainfall. If you need to reach the City of Slidell during the storm, please call (985) 643-6140.

Several city cultural events planned for the weekend have been postponed. "Inspiration: the Works of Mary Christopher" opening reception on Oct. 5 in the Slidell Cultural Center at City Hall will be rescheduled for Friday, October 11. Sunday's Bayou Jam concert featuring Witness will be rescheduled for a later date. The portable restrooms in Heritage Park have also been picked up for the storm and will return to the park on Monday.
