Man wanted for robbing elderly business owner


New Orleans -- St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Deputies are searching for a man wanted for pistol-whipping and robbing an elderly business owner. The incident occurred on September 30th, just after 7:00 p.m. at a store just off of Hwy 11 in Slidell.

Police say that the 80-year-old owner and an employee were closing the store when the perpetrator ran up to the pair from a nearby wooded area. The perpetrator pointed a handgun at the two men, demanding money. The perpetrator the struck the 80-year-old with the gun and stole an undisclosed amount of money.

After robbing the man, the perpetrator ran back into the wooded area he came from. The elderly man suffered a broken hip when he fell to the ground. Despite his fall, the man was able to give detectives a description of the armed man.

The man is described as an African-American man, approximately 5'8" to 6' tall with a muscular build. He was dressed all in black and was wearing a mask.

If you have any information that could help investigators find the perpetrator, you are asked to call St. Tammany Parish Detective Walter Matthews at 985-726-7845 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 504-822-1111. CRIMESTOPPERS is offering a $2500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person responsible. An anonymous donor has added $2500 to the total, making the grand total $5,000.
